Getting To Know: Chloe Lloyd
Getting To Know: Chloe Lloyd
Our 'Getting To Know' series continues as we speak exclusively to Yeovil Town's Welsh midfielder and NGS client, Chloe Lloyd.
Over the last few years, Chloe's journey in football has been fairly turbulent with some real highs and severe lows. Chloe starts by telling us "I definitely feel the last 3 years have been the most challenging so far in my footballing journey. I've had real highs and some serious lows and I definitely feel I am in the best place I could be mentally and physically right now. The high's that stand out to me would be representing Wales at senior level, competing at the World University Games in Taipei with Team GBR and playing in the WSL for Yeovil Town. The lows, definitely my ACL injury which I've spoke about in previous interviews. I feel these highs and lows have made me the person I am today, I strongly believe that everything happens for a reason."
Away from football, Chloe works full time at PureGym in Cardiff where she's the Assistant Gym Manager and part time Personal Trainer. She reveals "I love it there!! As much as work is busy, football is my getaway. As soon as I step over the white line I battle. I am very content with my work/football/life balance right now and I feel that is super important". If Chloe isn't working or training, you can usually find her tucked away in a coffee shop somewhere in Wales, "I'll be honest, I'm a HUGE coffee lover. During the week I work hard at what I do, during weekends it's time to switch off. I enjoy spending time with my family and I like to visit friends, finding some edgy coffee shops and exploring new towns and cities."
Chloe, 23, recently re-signed for Yeovil Town this year. We asked her about how life at Yeovil has been since her return, which she described "I had a lot of unfinished business at Yeovil. I decided to return after my injury for one main reason...Jamie Sherwood. I was at a point in my career where I wasn't at my best at all and I knew he was the guy who was going to bring my love for football back again. So far, that's what he's done. When a Manager believes in me as much as Jamie does, I will go through a brick wall for them."
Before re-signing for Yeovil, Chloe spent time at Cardiff City after her ACL recovery, we were keen to find out from a players perspective what the main differences were between Welsh and English football. Chloe went on to tell us "I feel the main difference is the wider range of competition and the overall standard of English football. There's more progression from The National League, The Championship, and The WSL and there's a stepping stone to keep getting better. I wanted to play games every week and it be a difficult 3 points to fight for, I feel English football gives me that."
Chloe signed for Next Gen Sport Solutions at the start of 2020 in which she became the first NGS signing of this decade. Reece Land, Managing Director of Next Gen Sport Solutions quoted "I'd put Chloe up against any midfielder. I know she can hold her own in The WSL and I wouldn't be surprised to see her there again in the next couple of years. Her technical ability she can compete with anyone but the characteristics that she has are perfect! She's the ultimate professional on and off the pitch and how she's overcome adversity in recent years has to be commended. She has a bright future and I don't think it'll be long before we see her back in the Wales shirt again." Chloe responded to these comments by saying "I know NGS have a lot of midfielders in The Championship and WSL which is where I want to be further down the line. I know and understand what the standard is like and it's very competitive. It gives me a boost that my Agent believes in me just like my Manager does and that's when you get the best out of me."
We then asked Chloe some quick fire questions:
Q) What are the 2 things you can't live without?
Coffee & my family.
Q) Dream holiday destination?
Maldives, Bali & Dubai - there's a few.
Q) When you go to a coffee shop, what's your order?
Now we're talking!!! Either a Caramel Cortado or Vanilla Latte.
Q) If you could invite 3 celebrities to your house for dinner, who would they be and why?
Steven Gerrard - He is LEDGE. My idol.
Anne-Marie - She's sick.
Amanda Holden - She makes my mornings on the radio.
Q) Do you have any pre-match rituals or superstitions?
I'm not superstitious however, I always put my left shin-pad sock on first and fold my shorts once. I think that's pretty normal.
Q) Reece told us that he once travelled to training with you and you made him listen to Soulja Boy on repeat...but we want to know what songs you're listening to at the minute?
Oh God, this could get embarrassing, I would say JLS but nah.
So SZA & Justin Timberlake - The Other Side has currently got me.
However every week in the Yeovil changing rooms Meesha, TJ & Katie Jones nag me to play SAINt JHN - Roses (Imanbek Remix) on a WEEKLY BASIS - now it's stuck in my head.
Q) Who're your closest friends in football?
Football has brought me so close to many people who are life long friends. The ones that stand out are; Gemma Evans, Ffion Price, Jordan Guard, Jessica Osborne, Katy Horsford.
Q) If you could change one thing about women's football, what would it be?
I strongly believe that every female footballer should have financial and injury support throughout their whole career. I feel only the elite of the elite get the support they need.
Q) Where do you see yourself in 3 years time?
The dream is to be a professional footballer, the fire inside me for that to happen is still there. But I also love my job so climbing up the management ladder in PureGym. The people there are incredible.
