Getting To Know: Olivia Clark
Getting To Know: Olivia Clark
Continuing our 'Getting To Know' series, we catch up with NGS client and Welsh international goalkeeper, Olivia Clark.
Olivia Clark signed for Huddersfield Town from Nettleham FC at the start of this season after having offers on the table from WSL, Championship & other National League clubs. Olivia told us "The National League is a better standard than I expected and this is exactly what I was looking for to challenge myself at a higher level. I think there's a massive difference in The National League & the league below, it's a lot more technical and there are some really physical sides in the league."
Huddersfield Town recently played Ipswich Town at The John Smith's Stadium in-front of a large crowd, we asked Olivia how this experience was, which she responded "It was a great experience to play there and even better to be the first women's team to do so. It just show's how more and more clubs are supporting their women's teams. Before the game we had breakfast at the men's training ground and used their lounge to chill out, which is a lot different to what I normally do (in preparation of a game)"
Olivia Clark, 18, has been part of the Welsh senior national team now for over 12 months, Olivia told us "It's a massive privilege to be able to play for Wales and to be given the opportunities I've had at only 18. I want to play for them for as long as possible. Wales camps can sometimes clash with education but I've always found a way around it. Last year, I had to sit an A-Level exam whilst being on senior camp but it worked our well in the end."
Olivia continued "Football and sport is pretty much my life at the minute. I have a season ticket at Lincoln City, so I go and watch them when I can. I also play cricket for Lincolnshire in the summer when I get time to. Apart from that, I'm either at University or working so I have a busy life at the moment."
We asked an NGS Representative for some words on Olivia, "We believe that Olivia is one of the best young prospects in Europe. At 18 years old, looking at where she's currently at and also seeing first hand just how many options she had last summer including several WSL & Championship clubs. The main thing for us and Olivia is that her development continues with getting as many minutes under her belt in senior football and then her career will take care of itself. If she carries on doing what she's doing, we're under no illusion that she can reach the very top." Olivia responded to these comments by saying "NGS have been really supportive of me and have made me believe in myself and what I can achieve, which is obviously what you want from a sports management company. They have always been understanding of my other commitments and have found opportunities for me that fit around these. I think that with this help I can push myself to play at the highest level I can an fulfil my potential."
We asked Olivia some quick fire questions:
Q) What is the 1 thing you can't live without?
A) My dog. I hate being away from her at Uni but she's always glad to see me when I come home.
Q) What are the 3 songs you're listening to at the minute?
A) Blinding Lights by The Weeknd, One and Only by J Hus & The Box by Roddy Rich.
Q) If you could invite 3 people around to your house for dinner, who would they be and why?
A) Ben Stokes - Hero at the World Cup and never gives up.
Jurgen Klopp - The best football manager there is, even though I'm not a Liverpool fan.
David Attenborough - Would love to speak about his experiences of the world, as I want to travel the world at some point in my life.
Olivia Clark is also an ambassador for KeepHer Soccer which provide Olivia with all her gloves. We appreciate your support for Olivia.
